Company Profile: A UK based company, the Tesco Group is one of the leading retailers, with 76 stores around Ireland, employing some 10,500 people nationwide. Tesco’s bought the former Quinnsworth here in Arklow in 1997. The new Tesco Superstore was opened on Monday 5th April 2004. The store currently employs 156 local people and is open 24 hours a day seven days a week. The store was designed in response to local customer feedback and the store has a wide range of new facilities to customers such as Clothing, Domestic Electrical Appliances and Homewares. Company Profile: Roadstone Exports Ltd,. Is a subsidiary company of CRH plc. It operates a hard rock basalt quarry. Known locally as ‘Parnell Quarry’, it is located on the site of a much older quarry dating back over 100 years when stone ‘sets’ were hand cut and exported to pave the streets of Dublin, Liverpool and many other towns. Today using modern quarrying and processing techniques Roadstone Exports Ltd., produces 500,000 tonnes of quality aggregates for road construction per year. Most of this is exported to blacktop manufactures in England and Germany in bulk cargo using the loading facilities of the quarry’s private jetty. |
